Understanding Hat Blocks

About Hat Block Resource

with 3 comments

Over the years I’ve been asked many questions about hat blocks by students and milliners. Where to find new or used blocks, advising on value and design,  how to get best use of your existing blocks. This blog will offer a centralized place for questions, comments, advice and information for everyone to use and study in an interactive format.
  • Comments/reviews of various hatblocks on Ebay and the web
  • Finding used hatblocks, understanding the design and values
  • Developing ideas for new blocks, finding and working with a blockmaker
  • Blockmaker contact information
  • Repairing and redesigning existing blocks
  • Understanding different shapes and how they are best used
  • Photograph database of hatblocks – Provide a reference library of hatblock photos gleaned from the Web.

  1. What a great resource, Wayne. And a great way to repurpose blocks that have outlived their original design features. I thought the Stephen Jones video was interesting. What type of glue do you suppose she used between the buckram and the fabric? Keep the great content coming!

  2. wayne,
i love that you do this. To me, it makes me feel like there are individual milliners/designers creating one of a kind pieces out there, as a couture business. It is nice to know that all this is happening outside New York City and especially that you bring it all together. Thanks for caring. Marsha
